Am I playing with Fire and is my contractor Protecting Me?

Neglected Restaurant Exhaust System: Duct, Vent, Fan, Plenum, Hood Images

Restaurant Exhaust Cleaning Contractor Negligence #1

This is the cleaning performance sticker from the company that just cleaned this system on 9/7/2007 and it is only 1/9/2008 (4 months)

This is no where near enough time for this much buildup in a system like what you are about to see

(The company name is withheld for legal reasons)

This is the neglected fan and the bowl. The blades were spinning in their own filth enough to throw grease over the bowl edge.

The grease box is missing and was found full hiding around the corner, and not hooked back up to the fan

This is the bottom of the fan

You will notice they attempted to clean the fan where the spray marks are

This is the plenum area that was missed, and you will notice all of the buildup and clogged fire suppression nozzles

Neglected exhaust duct system that was just cleaned by exhaust company

Closer shot of same neglected duct

Duct (vent) being scraped by Michigan Exhaust Cleaning to remove heavy buildup first. You can see how thick the grease (fuel) is in the duct

Ductwork after the heavy buildup of grease (fuel) is removed all the way down to the plenum (Hood Area). The rest is then scraped from below at the kitchen level

Ductwork after degreasing and hot water cleaning to remove remaining fuel

Another shot of the ductwork from below looking up towards the roof after degreasing
